Added a page depicting a map of the major hubs of global air freight integrators. The growth of e-commerce has been so significant to the business that Amazon decided build its own air freight network with a new hub.

The section has been substantially updated by its main author, Dr. John Bowen of Central Washington University. All the maps and figures have been updated to new visual standards.

In preparation for the 5th edition, each chapter is being updated. The revision involves the material as well as graphic material. Figures and maps have also been updated to a common template and to better display in widescreen format. The revision of chapter 1 is now complete.

In preparation for the 5th edition of the textbook, the section about air transportation has been updated (thanks to Dr. John Bowen of Central Washington University).

Updated the standard economic representation of the derived demand for transportation.

The value of the inventory shown on this photo is impressive.

Added a new page depicting a basic form of reefer storage at terminals and distribution centers.

In view of rising congestion, airline have responded by extending the scheduled length of their flights, which allows to maintain ‘on-time’ performance. The good news is that recently, airlines have shortened the scheduled duration of many of their flights, which is indicative of better performance.
